MATTHEW “WOMBAT” Paranormal Investigator — Hide & Seek Paraquest THE GOTHIC QUESTIONER
Known to the team as Matt or Wombat, Matthew has been part of Hide & Seek Paraquest for around six months.
With a fascination for all things gothic and unknown, Matt enjoys researching, investigating and questioning the mysteries of the universe.
His interest in the paranormal began through personal experiences and a desire to understand the things that remain unexplained.
At home, Matt has two kids who think he's a little crazy and an amazing partner, Bek, who helped introduce him to the world of paranormal investigation and ultimately brought him into the HSPQ family.
WHY HE JOINED HSPQ
Matt joined HSPQ because he wanted to gain experience from other investigators while continuing to learn, share and question everything.
For him, paranormal investigation isn't about simply accepting an experience.
It's about asking questions, comparing experiences and learning from the people around him.
HIS FIRST PARANORMAL EXPERIENCE
Matt's paranormal journey began with an experience that happened close to home.
He noticed what felt like someone sitting down beside him in bed, despite nobody actually being there.
It was an experience that stayed with him and helped fuel his desire to understand the unknown.
THE PRIVATE INVESTIGATION
One of Matt's most memorable investigations was a private investigation with Bek.
During the investigation, someone appeared to come through wanting them to pass on a message.
What made the experience particularly significant was the quality of the evidence.
Matt describes it as the clearest EVP they have ever captured.
For someone who approaches the paranormal with a questioning mindset, an experience like that can be difficult to simply dismiss.
THE CONVENT
Matt's favourite investigation location is the Convent.
He enjoys exploring locations with history and atmosphere, particularly places that provide opportunities to investigate and question what may have happened there.
WHAT INTERESTS MATT?
The answer is simple:
Everything.
Matt doesn't limit himself to one particular type of paranormal activity.
He's interested in exploring whatever a location presents and seeing where the investigation leads.
HIS MUST-HAVE EQUIPMENT
Matt's investigation essential is EVP equipment.
Capturing potential electronic voice phenomena is particularly important to him, especially after experiencing an EVP that carried such personal significance.
WHEN SOMETHING MOVES
One of the strangest things Matt has personally experienced during an investigation was an item moving on its own.
It's the kind of event that immediately raises questions.
Was there a natural explanation?
Was something else involved?
For Matt, those questions are exactly why investigation matters.
QUESTION EVERYTHING
Matt remains sceptical about all paranormal claims.
That doesn't mean he's closed-minded.
Quite the opposite.
His approach is to remain open to an experience while continuing to question what happened and whether there could be another explanation.
THE EVP THAT CHANGED HIS PERSPECTIVE
One experience that significantly changed Matt's perspective was capturing an EVP from someone he personally knew.
That personal connection made the experience particularly powerful.
It reinforced his belief that the paranormal deserves to be investigated, but also that experiences should be examined carefully rather than simply accepted at face value.
WHAT MATT BRINGS TO HSPQ
Matt brings teamwork, a willingness to learn and previous workplace leadership and management experience.
He's comfortable working as part of a team, but also enjoys taking on leadership and management responsibilities when needed.
Most importantly, he's willing to listen, learn and contribute.
THE HSPQ FAMILY
One of Matt's favourite things about joining HSPQ was discovering just how welcoming the team was.
He appreciated that everyone seemed comfortable being themselves.
For Matt, that sense of acceptance and open communication is an important part of what makes the team work.
He particularly enjoys the communication and sharing of experiences between like-minded members.
WHAT HSPQ MEANS TO MATT
Being part of HSPQ has given Matt the opportunity to learn, investigate and become part of something he's genuinely interested in.
It's a chance to surround himself with people who share his curiosity while continuing to develop his own knowledge and experience.
HORROR & PARANORMAL
Matt's favourite horror movie is Chucky.
When it comes to paranormal television and content, he enjoys Amy's Crypt and Kindred Spirits.
His dream investigation destination is Wales, with its incredible history, castles and countless stories of hauntings.
IF MATT COULD HAVE A PARANORMAL ABILITY
Matt wouldn't choose an ability simply for personal gain.
He'd want the ability:
To help them.
Whether that's helping spirits communicate, understand what they need or move forward, the ability would be about helping rather than simply seeing the paranormal.
SOMETHING PEOPLE MAY NOT KNOW
There is a rather impressive fact about Matt that might surprise people.
He was once an Australian Powerlifting Champion.
So underneath the gothic interests and paranormal investigations is someone who has competed at an extremely high level of strength sport.
WHY INVESTIGATE WITH HSPQ?
For Matt, the philosophy behind HSPQ is simple:
Question the unknown.
Don't tell people what they experienced.
Don't try to convince someone that the paranormal exists.
Instead, give people the opportunity to have their own experience and make their own conclusions.
“We are about questioning the unknown and leaving it up to the individual's experience, and not trying to convince them that the paranormal exists.”
That's the approach Matt brings to every investigation.
Curious.
Questioning.
Open-minded.
And always willing to learn.
Welcome to Hide & Seek Paraquest, Wombat. Question everything. Experience the unknown.
